Equipment determines the ceiling of the process. This section organizes the main equipment of a filter production line by process step, explaining what each machine "does, what quality it determines, and what to look for during a factory audit."

I. Pleater

[Industry Knowledge]

  • Blade pleater: straight pleats for panel air/cabin filters, controlling pleat height and pleat pitch, high output.
  • Rotary pleater: star pleats for round-core / spin-on elements, controlling pleat count and winding density.

Quality determined: pleat-height uniformity, pleat-pitch consistency, media crease-damage rate.

Factory-audit focus: the pleater's automatic pleat-height detection / correction capability, which determines whether it can continuously and stably produce pleats.

II. PU foaming / dispensing machine

[Industry Knowledge] One-piece forming equipment for the PU frame / end caps of air and cabin filters. Two-component PU is metered, mixed, and injected into the mold in proportion, then foamed and cured.

Quality determined: injection-volume accuracy, foam-density uniformity, absence of air holes on the sealing surface.

Factory-audit focus: whether it has metering accuracy and temperature control (PU is sensitive to mixing ratio and temperature).

III. Curing oven

[Industry Knowledge] Tunnel continuous curing oven, used for end cap plastisol / PU curing, with zone temperature control.

Quality determined: bond strength, whether the media is over-baked and embrittled.

Factory-audit focus: traceability of the temperature-profile record and in-oven residence time.

IV. Drawing / hydraulic tapping machine

[Industry Knowledge] Steel-plate drawing and thread tapping of the spin-on oil filter housing.

  • Drawing machine: multi-stage drawing forming, determining housing wall-thickness uniformity and pressure resistance.
  • Hydraulic tapping machine: precisely taps the base thread, determining screw-on verticality and sealing.

Factory-audit focus: whether the housing is one-piece drawn, and the thread-precision inspection method.

V. Leak test bench / leak-tightness test bench

[Industry Knowledge] Spin-on oil filters and fuel filters undergo 100% leak-tightness / water-tightness testing of finished products. Two common methods:

  • Leak-tightness test: pressurize and hold, measuring pressure drop to judge leakage;
  • Water test / differential-pressure leak test: immersion or differential-pressure method to locate the leak point.

Quality determined: preventing finished products with leaks from leaving the factory (this is a "100% full inspection" rather than sampling category — see Final Inspection).

Factory-audit focus: whether the leak bench is inline (every unit must pass) or offline sampling.

VI. Laboratory testing equipment (see the dedicated laboratory equipment page)

Efficiency test bench, dust holding capacity test bench, static burst tester, bypass valve opening pressure test bench, etc. See Laboratory Equipment for details.

Editorial view

[Editorial Opinion] When auditing equipment, don't count machines; look at whether key quality points have a closed-loop of corresponding equipment: a leak bench shows attention to leakage, an inline leak-tightness line shows full inspection, and curing-oven temperature records show process traceability. A lone pleater plus a pile of manual assembly cannot sustain stable export of spin-on oil filters. Equipment is the physical evidence of process capability.
